What a long wait! I finally had the chance of riding
my brand new little beast on the track during the 3rd RACE regional!
Alain was able to get my 1000 RR race ready and so I took it out
a few sessions on the track to get use to this new and incredible
machine! Wow! What a bike!! I never had the chance of trying a Superbike
on a track before! As of today though, I’m sure I’ll
have plenty of fun racing this great new bike! My 2 600 RR seem
to be so slow now compare to the 1000!!
Qualifying on the Saturday took place on a semi
dried semi wet track. I qualified 3rd in the Pro 600 class, even
though we were not too many riders out on the track! I was pretty
glad to have gone out for those few laps in order to get a start
on the first row for Sunday’s race. The rest of the day was
cancelled due to heavy rain and lightning. Girding would be determined
by the morning’s time in practice.
We were lucky enough on Sunday morning and up to
a bit after lunch break, to ride on a dry track. My Pro 600 race
was my best race since the beginning of this year. I did get a good
start, for once, and so was able to stay with the leaders for the
first few laps. I did looset 3 positions following a little mistake
at the hairpin, but I managed to come back up to the 5th position
with 3 laps to go. On the next lap, I passed the 4th pilot on the
brakes at the end of the straightaway, but a few corners later,
I left the door too wide at Allen’s corner and got passed
by that same rider. Even though I tried to pass him again, I ran
out of laps and finished 5th overall. What a race though!! I did
get really good lap times, with a best lap of 1m :49s.096, 1.5 s
off the winner! Every lap was also faster than the preceding one,
and I did realize my fastest lap on the very last lap! A bit more
practice with these guys and I’ll manage to stay ahead!
The Women’s race was also in the rain. Starting
from the last position due to a transponder problem, I was hoping
on getting a good start!! Arggggg! Once more, I miss my start and
I get stuck behind the pack!! Not even a lap later, a red flag stopped
the race. We had to restart a 3 lap race in the rain again!! This
time, I did get a better start and moved my way up to 2nd place.
With a track still slippery, I was glad with my 2nd position. I
finished up and the bike was in one piece. Lastly, the Pro Superbike
race was at the end of the day, and I was exhausted and frozen.
The plan was to finish the race up with the bike and score a few
points. I managed to finish 6th, but it seemed as if I’d never
see the end! My legs were killing me and I was frozen everywhere!
So, another good weekend,
even though it rained again. The bikes run great, thanks to Alain
again, and I do try to do my best when I’m on the track!
